The long tail of credits —
that nobody else tracks for you.

The federal R&D credit and WOTC get the headlines. The actual recovery often comes from a stack of less-cited credits — and from state programs that vary year over year, jurisdiction by jurisdiction.

Employee Retention Credit (ERC)

The pandemic-era refundable payroll credit. Claims windows are largely closed for new periods, but amended-return opportunities remain for businesses that didn't fully claim in 2020-2021. We file with the documentation IRS expects today, not the looser standard of 2021.

State R&D credits

Forty-plus states maintain their own R&D credit programs that stack on top of the federal credit. California, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Texas and Arizona — among others — each have their own qualifying-activity rules. We claim them concurrently with the federal study.

Enterprise zone / Opportunity zone

Federal Opportunity Zone capital-gain deferral and state enterprise-zone hiring credits. Each program has narrow window-of-eligibility and documentation rules; the upside compounds with cost-segregation on the underlying real estate.

Energy credits beyond 179D

Section 45L for energy-efficient residential construction. Section 30D for fleet electrification. Solar and storage investment tax credits and their associated direct-pay elections. We map your projects to whichever credit yields the largest after-tax benefit.

Brownfield & remediation

Federal and state credits for environmental remediation, site cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated property. Often paired with cost-segregation and 179D when redeveloping the structure.

Training & apprenticeship credits

State-level credits for registered apprenticeship programs and qualifying workforce training expenditures. We coordinate them with WOTC documentation so a single hiring file qualifies for multiple programs.

Don't see your program? Ask anyway.

We track several hundred federal and state programs. If your activity has a credit-flavored shape — a regulated activity, a domestic-production wage, a qualifying location — there's probably a program. Reach out and we'll tell you in twenty minutes.
